Reverend Lee Powell Obituary

Rev. Lee A. Powell was born on June 9, 1959 in Percy, MS to parents, Minnie Lee Evans-Washington and James Powell. He was raised by his Auntie Simmie and Uncle Albert Mayfield. They all preceded him in death along with six siblings: Lawrence (Lil Man), James, Keron, Allen, Gweniever, and Lawrence (Andre). He leaves five siblings to cherish his memories: Rosemary (Will Albert), Henry, Stanley, Anthony, Angela (Herman), and one bonus brother, Keith Hoskins. Lee attended and graduated from Austin High School. Lee was an ordained minister for over 30 years, all while also being a mechanic and an employee for Ford Motors Co., and serving in the Army Reserve. Lee was raised in a musical family, where he found the love for singing in quartets. He played a bass/guitar and trained many young men. He also sung in many quartet groups: The Tones of Joy, The Soul Revivals, The Spies Singers, The Notes of Melody, The Originals, The Chosen Ones, and The Faith Ones. Lee was a member of the following churches within his life: Community Bible Mission Church, Rev. Tucker, IBOC and Rev. TC Raven, and Prayer Center Church, Rev. Joseph Towns. In 1989, he welcomed his one and only daughter, Leatrice Shorty. He also witnessed the birth of his only grandson, LaTrell Richardson, in 2018. In 2006, Lee met his soulmate fiancée, Evgangelist Elizabeth Adams. Within this time, he also helped raise his bonus grandson, Graysen Calloway. He played a father figure to many bonus children and grandchildren: Angela, Lamont, Marshay, Karen, Felicia, Reginald, Jozette, Kelvin, KeAnna, Keara, Robert, Xavier, Marcus, Chloe, and Jomyah. He also was a mentor to the Holy Sons, God’s Posse, The Victory Travelers, Gospel Crusaders, along with many other young people. He leaves to cherish his siblings, his fiancée, his daughter, his grandson, his bonus children and grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
