Born to the union of Lettye Beckley and Harry Gardner in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 1958. Adopted as an infant by Richard Green, Sr., and Cubell Green, and moved to Chicago, Illinois, Richard spent his formative years with his family both in Milwaukee and Chicago; often spending weekends with his brothers and sisters. Richard also spent time with his aunts, Marie, Menrose, and Diane, and his cousin, Greg. Richard graduated from high school in Chicago, Illinois. Richard attended Loyola University, Chicago, Illinois, for two years. Richard was fortunate to have married two very good women who were very good to him and his family, Laverne Green Johnson and later, Erma Faye Green. One did not know Richard and his family. Family meant a lot to Richard. Richard’s brothers and sisters were his solid foundation. Richard idolized his siblings and was with them at every chance he could. Though Richard was raised in Chicago, there was never a moment he felt less than an equal brother to his siblings. Richard was a long-time member of the Beckley Family Club of Chicago, serving as the business manager for a number of years. Richard attended many of the annual Beckley Family Reunions and was well admired amongst his many relatives. Richard enjoyed reading and Facebook. Richard was a reliable attendee of his brother’s annual NFL Draft weekend party, where he defended his love for the Chicago Bears. Richard was ill prepared for the depth of love he had for his daughter, Monica (Elaine). Monica held a special place in Richard’s heart that no other could. Monica could make Richard do, when others could not. But his granddaughter, Layla, made Richard want to do, when others could not. Richard found a love in Layla, not seen by Richard before. He could not be a prouder grandfather. Monica loved her daddy through the good and trying times. Monica was steadfast in taking care of her father in his battle with cancer. It was ultimately Richard’s heart that failed him in the end. Richard departed this life on August 21, 2024, due to his heart condition. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Green, Sr., and Cubell Green. Richard was survived by: his mother, Lettye Albert, nee Beckley (Nathan) of Denton, TX; daughter and granddaughter, Monica Green and Layla Johnson, both of Chicago, IL; brother, Ronald Johnson (Doris) of Milwaukee, WI; brother, Gerald Johnson (Tanya) of Seattle, WA; sisters, Debra Mitchell of Dallas, TX, and Ronda Harris, both of Greenville, NC; brothers, Bryan Johnson (Nikkol) of Milwaukee, WI, Kenneth Johnson (Francisca) of Austin, TX, and Mark Johnson (Deidra) Colleyville, TX; aunt, Diane Beckley Milner (Jim) of Milwaukee; cousin, Gregory Johnson of Milwaukee, WI; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, stepchildren, and close friends
