Matriarch Roberta Hargrove Woodard, the classy, glamorous Diva, was the seventh baby girl of twelve born to the late Reverend James and Mother Mamie Hargrove. Born July 23, 1936, in Luxora, Arkansas, this bright-eyed, beautiful baby brought much joy to the family. Matriarch Roberta Hargrove Woodard was raised with her family in a loving, God-centered home in Mileston, Mississippi. Her family raised livestock and grew cotton. Matriarch Roberta was educated in the Mileston Vocational School System. She was the prankster of the family, often daring her sisters to do the impossible. She loved to go fishing for crawfish. There was NEVER a dull moment when Matriarch Roberta was around! All roads led to Chicago for Matriarch Roberta Hargrove Woodard and her son Edward, the firstborn Hargrove grandson. She desired to join her older sisters in the Big City in search of a better life. As Matriarch Roberta Hargrove Woodard would always say, “Only what you do for Christ will last!” Matriarch Roberta loved the Lord with all of her heart. In 1957, she was one of the Founding Members of Mt.Carmel Holiness Church in Chicago, Illinois, under the leadership of her father, Reverend Hargrove. She sang in the choir for many years. She continued to serve faithfully under the leadership of Pastor Donald Coleman after the passing of her father. Matriarch Roberta Hargrove Woodard always loved children! She was employed with Chicago Public Schools for many years at Key School. Following the lead of her sisters, she had a desire for entrepreneurship. She founded God’s Little Angel Daycare. She impacted the lives of many children and families over the years, offering a good hot meal, wise counsel, or a much needed hug. Everyone loved Mrs. Woodard! If there were a theme song to define Matriarch Roberta Hargrove Woodard’s life, it would be, We Are Family. “I’ve got all my sisters with me!” Matriarch Roberta loved her family!!! She enjoyed spending time and traveling with her sisters. On any given day, you could find Those Hargrove Girls supporting others and enjoying one another’s company. Family was EVERYTHING to our matriarch. She was a Founding Member of the J.F. Hargrove Memorial Choir, where she served as chaplain for many years.
