Rosie Davis Obituary

Rosie Lee Davis was born on July 1, 1937, in Clarksdale, MS, and immediately moved to Greenwood, MS, with her mother and father, Rosa Holt and Lee Holt, both of whom preceded her in death. At birth, she was born tiny which was the beginning of her affectionately being called “Scrapp.” This nickname followed her throughout her life. She was an only child by birth, but God brought her a sister named, Louise Jordan. From a young age, through their sisterhood she gained the entire Brand family. During her time in Greenwood, MS, God blessed her life with five beautiful children, the late Marvin, Lois, Reggie, Dwaine, and Colette. Rosie accepted Christ at an early age at Jones Chapel. In search of a better life for her and her kids, she moved to Chicago in 1968. She began working at Morton’s Cafeteria. During her time in Chicago, she met and married the late George Davis. This union was blessed with two beautiful children, Marcus and Angela. She renewed her dedication to the Lord and joined King of Glory Tabernacle COGIC under leadership of the late Bishop Shepard Little. She returned to Mississippi in 1998 to care for her mother, and during her stay, she joined True Bibleway Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ under the leadership of Bishop James Dawson. After the demise of her mother, she returned to Chicago in 2019 and continued her faithful service at King of Glory Tabernacle COGIC under the leadership of Administrative Assistant Jeffrey D. Hodges. Mother Rosie Davis served tirelessly. She was a Sunday School teacher and member of Tithing Board and the Hospitality Board. Mother Davis loved working with her hands. She led and taught many how to sew through her Sewing Circle Ministry. Mother Davis was famous for cooking in the kitchen at King of Glory Tabernacle COGIC. Her food brought love and joy to everyone and will forever be missed. Mother Davis ,affectionately known as “Big Mama” to her grandchildren, was a God fearing woman. She was a woman who didn’t just attend church but lived it. From the moment the church doors opened, you can count on seeing her there, dressed in grace carrying a spirit full of love and devotion. Her life was a testimony. You didn’t have to ask her what she believe, you can see it in how she treated people. Mother Rosie Davis was the epitome of the Proverbs 31 Virtuous Woman, fulfilling the scripture, “Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.” Early on April 9, 2026, God called His faithful servant to rest from her labor to reward. She leaves to cherish her memory: Lois of Greenwood, MS, Reggie (Betty) of Kathleen, GA, Dwaine (Shirley) of Lawton, OK, Colette and Angela of Chicago, IL, and Marcus of Omaha, NE; 18 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren; special brother, Matthew (Dorothy); her King of Glory Tabernacle COGIC Church family; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends. “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth is laid up for me a crown of righteousness…” – II Timothy 4:7-8
