Ruthie Lee Shivers was the oldest child of two born on November 19, 1930, to Rufus and Nannie Watson in Eads, Tennessee. Her father, mother, and only brother preceded her in death. She completed her early education in Memphis, Tennessee. With her family, they moved to Chicago, Illinois, where she finished her education at Wendell Phillips High School. She met and married Julius Beasie Coley, and to this union two children were born, Ronald and Rosalynn. Later in life, she met and married William Shivers, who preceded her in death. Bobbie, as she was affectionally called, held several jobs as an X-Ray Tech. She has worked for the Board of Health, and she retired from Humana in 1992. In her spare time, she loved to sew and was an excellent seamstress. She was also a great cook. She had been an avid church goer and loved God with all her heart. She joined New Philadelphia Baptist Church under the pastorate of Reverend Horace N. Mitchell, where she faithfully served on the Usher Board and started the Junior Ushers and the Young Adult Usher Board. She later joined Providence Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of Reverend William H. Foster, Jr., where she was a dedicated member until God said well done my good and faithful servant. She leaves to cherish and continue her legacy, her children, Ronald (Linda) and Rosalynn; six grandchildren, Ronald, Raymond, Reginald (Shiree), Lauren, Christopher, and Tynesha; 12 great-grandchildren, Aaron, Kiara, Isaiah, Elias, Latisha, Ryan, Kaelynn, Kennedy, Elijah, Jahmir, Mackenzie, and Ronald; five great great-grandchildren, Le’Bea, Samaya, Kynzley, Jonas, and Paulina; three special sons, Dennis Williams, Matthew Rollins, and Ronald Davis; and five special grandchildren, Spencer, Ariel, Ivyanna, Serenity, and Emilia; along with a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
