Sandra Jennings (Henton) was born November 5, 1950, and departed from this life on
May 3, 2025. Sandra was the second born child of the late Dorothy and John Jennings.
She was born in Dresden, Tennessee but migrated to Chicago as a child with her
mother and sister Gloria, who preceded her in death. Sandra attended Lucy Flower
High School but discontinued her education to become a wife and mother. Later Sandra
would return to her studies to complete her GED and begin taking courses at Malcolm
X College.
Sandra gave her life to Christ at the age of 14 when she was baptized at Union Hill
Missionary Baptist Church. She proudly served as an usher for years. Although she
visited other congregations, she remained a faithful member of Union Hill until her last
days.
Sandra met Ernest Henton in 1963 and their friendship bloomed into a romance. They
were married in July of 1966. This union would produce three children: Ernest Jr,
Desiree’, and Michelle. Both Ernest Sr. and Michelle proceeded Sandra to Heaven.
Sandra worked for many years at Rauland Borg before making the move to the United
States Postal Service. She began her career as a letter carrier but would retire as a
member of the human resources team.
Sandra was a natural giver that poured into everyone around her. She loved music and
dancing, so it was no coincidence that her home was often the location for every party
and ceremony that friends and family would hold.
Sandra leaves to cherish her memory: her son Ernest Jr (Simone), daughter Desiree’
(David), daughter-in-law Alicia Riley, sisters in law Kathy Henton and Doris Frazier
(Pete), her grandchildren: Brittany, Ernest the III, Steven, Ernest IV, Ernest V, Aja,
David Jr, Devyn and her chosen grandson Elijah, as well as a host of cousins and
friends. Lastly, the family would like to acknowledge our Auntie Barbara Youssef, who
was Sandra’s best friend and has been a treasured member of our family for over 25
years.
