Sheila Anderson Obituary

Sheila Elizabeth Lemon was born July 31, 1951, in Chicago, IL, to Doris Baretta Lemon and Samuel Green. She was named after her maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Madeline Johnson. At 15 years old, she began working for Marcy Center Youth Program for the city of Chicago. Her education included: William Penn Elementary School, Roswell B. Mason Elementary School, and attended Farragut High School. Her insight for higher education was manifested through her love for learning. She held positions at the Daily Center and the Office of Attorney General, which ignited her interest in the political arena. Sheila began her collegiate career with Chicago State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education. Yearning for more, she received a Master’s in Education Administration from Concordia University in River Forest, IL. Still drinking from the fountain of knowledge, “Sheila E.,” as she loved to be called, earned a second Master’s from Cambridge University in Cambridge, MA. Sheila served as a teacher and administrator for over 30 years with the Board of Education, retiring in 2007. She was the matriarch of the Lemon family, and there was nothing she wouldn’t do to express her love. Her passions were skating, dancing, singing, sewing, and traveling, but there was nothing she was more passionate about than her only child Latina, a.k.a. “Precious.” Sheila accepted Christ at an early age attending All Nations COGIC. Later, she rededicated her life back to Christ at Living Word Christian Center. On October 16, 1982, Sheila married her true love, Wardell Willie Anderson, who preceded her in death, a love story of 41 years. Sheila E. was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Evangelist Doris Baretta Lemon; father, Samuel Green; grandmother, Elizabeth Madeline Johnson; grandfather, Max Lemon; and two aunts, Maria Sconiers (William) and Maxine Virginia Lemon. Sheila leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, Latina Marie Lemon; two grandsons, Robert Lee Wheatley III and Dominic Jason Wheatley; two great-grandchildren, Robert Lee Wheatley IV and Natori Dahnielle Davis; two sisters, Maria Francine Young (Lester) and Bernadette Jones (Vincent); one brother, Reginald Terrell Lemon (Ramona) who preceded her in death; three nieces, Tamara Olivia Redmond (Richard), Aishia Tonette Jefferson (Frederick), and Alicia Nicole Tyler; three nephews, Lester Demetrious Young, Reginald Terrell Lemon, Jr., and Randy Terrell Lemon; and a host of other relatives and friends.
