Sylvester Wilcher, Sr., a ectionately known as “Syl,” was born on July 25, 1943, in Brookhaven, Mississippi, to Robert Sr. (“Paw Paw”) and Arnetta (“Maw Maw”) Wilcher. In 1965, Syl moved to Chicago, Illinois, where he worked tirelessly to build a life for himself and his growing family. He began working at Brach’s Candy Company where he met the love of his life, Clara J. Wilcher. Together, they shared 59 wonderful years of marriage, building a legacy rooted in faith, love, and family. Syl was known for his loving heart, infectious smile, and kind spirit. He had a remarkable gi for making everyone feel welcome, and those who knew him were naturally drawn to his warmth, generosity, and genuine compassion. He truly loved people, and in return, he was deeply loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him. A skilled carpenter by trade, Syl took great pride in his cra smanship and in the work of his hands. Whether building, repairing, or creating, he approached every project with dedication and excellence. Outside of work, he found joy in his extensive music collection, traveling to spend time with family, and enjoying friendly games of cards and dominoes. His playful spirit, quick smile, and love of laughter created countless cherished memories that will forever be treasured. In 2014, Syl gave his life to God and became a faithful member of Lifeline Church. His faith became the foundation of his life, and he walked each day with a heart that re ected love, compassion, humility, and service to others. Syl was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Robert Sr. (“Paw Paw”) and Arnetta (“Maw Maw”) Wilcher; and his three brothers, Robert “Pete” Wilcher, Jr., Johnnie “Bae Bae” Wilcher, and Billy Wilcher. He leaves to cherish his precious memory: his devoted wife of 59 years, Clara J. Wilcher; four daughters, Emma Devine, Phyllis (Belbin Tim) Franklin, Malissa Wilcher, and Latonya Wilcher; son, Sylvester Wilcher, Jr.; three sisters, Flossie (Willie) Byrd, Artis (Lewis) Robinson, and Annie (Clyde) Browder; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and cherished friends. Syl’s presence was larger than life. His unwavering love for his family, generous spirit, steadfast faith, and strong work ethic le an indelible mark on everyone who knew him. He will be remembered not only for what he built with his hands, but also for the lives he touched with his kindness, wisdom, and unconditional love. ough he will be deeply missed, his legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were blessed to know him
