The Right Reverend Charles Ivy Obituary

CELEBRATION OF LIFE THE RIGHT REVEREND CHARLES C. IVY March 18, 1942 - December 30, 2024 Charles C. Ivy was born on March 18, 1942, in Chickasaw County, Houston, Mississippi, to Ed and Lannie Ivy. Charles was the fifth of seven children. In 1950, Charles moved to Chicago with his family. While in Chicago, he accepted Christ at an early age, at a sanctified church across the street from his house. Charles loved the sound of church music and quartet style of music. CHARLES’ EDUCATION Charles attended William H. Brown Elementary School, McKinley Middle School, and graduated from John Marshall High School. He received certifications from Crane Junior College and ITT Technical College. After graduating, Charles started working with his father at Buhai manufacturing, making furniture. Some of Charles’ hobbies included playing baseball and singing. His love for singing kept him so involved, he traveled across the country with his quartet group, Mr. Tellie Howard and The Temple Sons. LOVE OF HIS LIFE While at a quartet service in March, Charles laid eyes on a young lady, Ms. Maxine Hargrove. The same year, September 22, 1962, Charles married Maxine. Shortly after marrying Maxine, Charles became a member of the Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Reverend James Franklin Hargrove. To this union, two children were born: Wendy and Torrence CHARLES’ WORK ETHIC Charles was always employed. He worked with his lifelong friend, Donald Coleman, as an entrepreneur, specializing in custom drapes. Charles also worked for General Electric and Sun Life Insurance. CHARLES’ LOVE FOR GOD Charles took his relationship with God very seriously. He loved Sunday School, diving into the Word of God. Charles was ordained a Minister under Reverend James F. Hargrove, and an Elder under Pastor Donald Coleman. While working in the ministry, Elder Charles worked as a Sunday School Superintendent, Youth Department President, and President of Youth for the Pentecostal Deliverance Fellowship (PDF) under the leadership of the late Bishop Willie J. Chambliss. Also while working in the ministry, Elder Charles was very instrumental in the building structure of the new Mt. Carmel Holiness Church. CHARLES’ MUSIC MINISTRY Pastor Charles loved the sound of music, church music, especially quartet style. Some of Pastor Charles’ favorites were The Willing Four, Harvey Watkins of the Canton Spirituals, the Dixie Hummingbirds, Neal Roberson, and Doc McKenzie. Pastor Charles enjoyed singing with his wife and sisters, The Singing Echoes. Pastor Charles was known for his high tenor voice, and such songs as, “I’m One of Them Today,” “When the Gates Swing Open,” “All Night, All Day,” “One Day at a Time,” and many more.

Pastor Charles enjoyed working in the ministry, in his various capacities. In 2003, the late Pastor Caldonia Wright requested Elder Charles to give her a call. After the conversation, Elder Charles began seeking counsel and praying. In November 2003, Elder Charles was involved in every aspect of the ministry; he helped each department and he was one of the church's biggest cheerleaders, always encouraging the members to live a Holy life. God had given Pastor Charles the vision to renovate the existing sanctuary and purchase four lots. Pastor Charles was all about outreach. God had given Pastor Charles the vision to expand the ministry with Faith Walk Community Services, where various services were offered, such as free Summer Programs, Before and After School services for the children, parents and seniors in the community, Faith Walk Community Academy (PreK—8th grade), feeding the hungry, and distribution of free clothes. Through his pastorship, he implemented the Noon Day Service, New Members Class, and the Licensing of Elders and Missionaries. On Monday, December 30, 2024, Pastor Charles C. Ivy, surrounded by his loving wife, family, and friends, exchanged his mortal for immortality, and his corruptible for incorruption. Pastor Charles Ivy is preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Lannie Ivy; and siblings, Francis, Lillie, Ed Lee, Gracie, and Arcenia.
