“Tammie” Williams was born on February
25, 1946, to the union of William and Beatrice Hamilton in
Columbus, Mississippi. Both parents preceded her in death.
Tammie accepted Christ at a young age at Canaan Missionary
Baptist Church in Columbus, where she was active in Sunday
School. In her early 20s, Tammie relocated to Chicago, Illinois,
where she lived with her sister Erma for many years. During that
time, her bond with family grew strong. Shortly after arriving
in Chicago, Tammie was employed with Hall Printing Company
and later worked at Hilton Hotel before joining Amtrak as a
coach cleaner. She took great pride in her work, often saying that
“deep cleaning was her forte,” and she remained with Amtrak
until her retirement in 2014.
While working at Hall Printing Company, Tammie met her
loving husband, Andrew W. Williams (Andy), who preceded her
in death in 2010. They were united in holy matrimony in 1985
and were faithful members of The Old Rugged Cross under the
leadership of Rev. Arthur K. Walker. Tammie faithfully served
on the Usher Board for 20 years.
Tammie loved her family deeply. She was an amazing baker,
especially known for her caramel cake, and often gave wise
advice to the younger generation, reminding them, “Don’t be
a follower,” and “Keep your personal business to yourself.” She
was a private person but maintained lifelong friendships and
meaningful connections with many people. Although she had
one biological son, she was like a mother to many and had a hand
in raising her great nieces and nephews, loving them all deeply.
Tammie departed this life on October 29, 2025. She leaves to
cherish her memory her son, Reginald Wallace of Columbus,
MS; her sister, Helen Wilson (Jerry); her bonus daughters, Sibyl
Williams and Athena Giles; her granddaughters, Shamara and
Tyrena; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces,
nephews, and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in
death by her sisters, Lula Cook (Arthur), Erma McClore (Benoit),
Phyllis Davis (Joseph); her brother, Orvin Hamilton (Sandra);
and her mother-in-law, Mrs. Lillie Williams.
