Valerie Denise Sivels-Jones aka, “Reesie” was born on March 28, 1962, in Chicago, Illinois. She was the third of four children born to Laurence Sivels, Jr., and Luella Sivels (both preceded her in death). She was raised by her Grandmother, Essie Balkcom, aka “Bigmomma”. She grew up in Chicago, Illinois, and married Kenneth Paul Jones, Sr. on August 30, 1986, and to this union one miracle son was born; Kenneth Paul Jones, Jr. and she gained a daughter Kenyatta Cotton, and was a great foster mom to Terrance Moss. Valerie joined King David Missionary Baptist Church many years ago under the late Pastor Clarence Guyton and the late Pastor Melvin Brown and now under the leadership of Pastor Assie Brown. Valerie taught New Members Class and opened the weekly conference calls for Bible Study. Valerie worked various jobs where she was a service to others. She spent over 20 years at Cook County Hospital, 10 years at Rush Oak Park Hospital, and 3 years working as a crossing guard in Forest Park, IL where she loved and serviced the children at Garfield Elementary School. Valerie was a light to so many. She simply had a way with words. Her ability to use the Word of God, and the Bread of Life to encourage, uplift, inspire and guide those she loved will leave a lasting impression on her family and friends. Valerie’s favorite scripture was “Psalm 91”. Many were blessed enough to be serenated with her Famous Happy Birthday Song. She enjoyed Dancing, Stepping and family gatherings. Valerie also enjoyed the delicacy of eating. Her favorite foods were homemade french fries with onions, fried chicken wings, greens, and cornbread. She made the best ham and taco dip for family gatherings. VALERIE EXEMPLIED A TRUE WOMAN OF FAITH, LOVE AND WISDOM. SHE LOVED GOD AND WAS BOLD ABOUT SHARING HIS GOODNESS AND DECLARING HIS WORD... She would end every statement with, “In Jesus Name or Have a Blessed Day in the Lord”. Valerie’s legacy will carry on through her husband, Kenneth Paul Jones, Sr., son Kenneth Paul Jones, Jr., her daughter, Kenyatta Cotton (Ted); grandchildren, Kionte Hill, Shawn Brunson, LaKyra McGee, Theron Cotton; three sisters, Cardean Jenkins, (Daryl Sr.), Regina Austin (Tyrone), Michelle Howze (Vernard), and brother, Richard Crittenden (Jean).
