Wyvonia Pickett Obituary

Wyvonia Ann Pickett “Gaye” was born on July 16, 1972, in Chicago, Illinois, to Richard Poole and Ellen Eames. Wyvonia accepted and was baptized into Christ early in her life. She was a devoted member of Lawndale Christian Community Church under the direct leadership of Dr. Wayne “Coach” Gordon. She raised her children to love and trust the Lord, often reciting Psalm 27. She graduated from John Marshall High School in Chicago, Illinois, and furthered her education at Harold Washington College and Cannella School of Hair Design. Wyvonia would earn her registered nurse degree and a degree in cosmetology at those respective schools. Wyvonia was also an avid stylist who enjoyed trying new hair designs on family and friends. She had a wonderful career as an RN at Mount Sani Hospital, where she worked well into the early 2000s. She later began working more closely with clients and patients in a more intimate setting. Wyvonia was extremely family oriented and was affectionally called “The Life of The Party” by those who had the opportunity to see her smile and enjoy her company. Everyone loved her and she reciprocated the love. Her deep connection with her family afforded her cousins, siblings, and children unforgettable moments. She lived a joyful life, on her own terms, with those she loved. On Thursday, January 26, 2023, her name was called by her eternal father. Although it is said “It is better to be absent from the body but present with the Lord,” we will all really miss her presence on this side of Heaven’s gates. She gained her wings and entered into Heaven and for that, we take comfort in knowing she entered with thanksgiving in her heart. She was welcomed into Heaven by her mother, Ellen Eames; two of her grandmothers, Ellen Pickett and Lillie Maye Poole; grandfathers, Otis Laster and James Poole; Caiserene (Rene) Sanders, Annie (Sue) Collins, Joann Pickett, and Sandra (Rose) Pickett; aunts, and Sammie (Hollywood) Pickett, her uncle. Wyvonia’s legacy will be remembered by: her children, Wayne Thomas, Vincent Felters, Jr., Jabez Felters, Grace Felters, Heaven Felters, and Destiny Felters; daughter-in-law, Kristena; grandchildren, Jayden, Wayne, Jr., Honesti, Kimora, Karter, and Mason; siblings, Richard (Mane), Lonya (Poosie) and Larry (Bernard) Keli Mason, Delfenie Swingler, and Khalilah Corey; stepmom, Delma Swingler; remaining aunts and uncles, Janie, Serentha “Cookie,” Mildred “Peach,” Tommie “Wolf,” Otis “Killer,” and Ozzie; fathers, Richard Poole and Robert Hinton; along with a host of cousins and close friends that will never forget how she impacted their life.
