Zaria Blaxton Obituary

tHe extraordInary lIfe of Zaria D’Nea Blaxton Zaria D’Nea Blaxton was born on June 14, 2005, in Chicago, Illinois, to Ebony Powell and Ezekiel Blaxton, Sr. She accepted Christ at an early age at God’s Way under the leadership of Pastor John E. Cooley, Sr., where she was baptized. Later in life she attended New Life Holiness under the leadership of Pastor Lajuan Whitfield. She was a faithful member at Mt. Pilgrim P.B. Church under the leadership of Pastor Carl Palmer, whom she danced with to celebrate his birthday until God called her home. Zaria attended Milton R. Brunson from kindergarten to second grade. She transferred to McNair School of Excellence. She not only was a rocket, she participated in so many things. She was a part of Urban Initiative where she played soccer. She was a part of the Delta Gems cheer team and was captain of the junior team. Zaria ran track, played volleyball, sang in the choir, did City Year, and was a loyal participant in Goddess Mentoring, where she was crowned before graduating in 2020. Zaria continued her education at Alraby High School. During her four years at Alraby she played volleyball, basketball, and participated in W.O.W. (Working On Womanhood). She majored in culinary arts, participated in after school matters, and was an honor roll student for all four years. Despite all the obstacles she faced she maintained a 3.2 GPA and graduated number six in her class in 2025. One of Zaria’s happiest moments was attending college. She attended Eastern Illinois University. She started out with her major being nursing but chose to finish with public health in order to broaden her horizon for her career change. Outside of all of her accomplishments, she enjoyed spending time with her family, church family, and friends. Zaria loved to cook and feed everyone. She made the BEST mac and cheese. She loved doing community service, standing side by side with her mom. In 2019 she was crowned THE survivor queen of Illinois International Pageant. In her 19 years she met all her goals and defeated all the odds that were against her. On March 6, 2025, Zaria gained her wings and was welcomed to her new home in heaven, where she’ll join her grandmother, Glenda Blaxton; grandfather, Gregory Powell; and uncles, Jason Berry and Nicky Berry. She leaves to cherish her memories: her mother, Ebony Powell; dad, Ezekiel Blaxton, Sr.; three siblings, Jaquais Powell (Alera), Ezekiel Blaxton, Jr., and D’Niyah Blaxton; one niece, Autumn Powell; grandmother, Vanessa Powell; grandfather, Derrick Berry, Sr. (Emma Berry); great-grandmother, Barbra Johnson; aunties, Kimyotta T hompson, Danielle Stanton, Porsha Berry, Colette Berry, and Cierra Powell; six uncles, Detrick Shaw, Quantraill Jones, Pierre Jones, Tyrae Berry, Eramis Winding, and Derrick Berry, Jr.; godparents, Damonty Banks, Anthony Jenkins, and Brittany Williams; her “Other Mama”, Danielle Thompson; best friends, Adrianna Warren and Arianna Johnson; the Fantastic Seven, Dannie Thompson, Damonty Banks, Priestly Thompson, Christopher Thompson, Justice Powell, Danielle T hompson, and Dominique Stanton; and a host of other aunties, uncles, family, and friends.
